Overview
CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt follows witcher Geralt as he searches for his adopted daughter Ciri, hunted by the spectral Wild Hunt. Set across the war-torn Continent from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, this action RPG lets players explore a vast open world with morally complex choices that shape its story.
Geralt’s quest for Ciri
The Witcher 3 offers more than Geralt’s quest for Ciri; it lets you explore the Continent of The Witcher series. Characters like Yennefer and Triss help guide your journey through a world where choices have consequences.
Prepare with steel and silver: combat tools that define monster hunting
Geralt relies on his unique arsenal: human opponents face steel while monsters are dispatched by silver swords, with oils and elixirs helping Geralt prepare. Combat is both strategic and visceral, requiring you to adapt tactics based on the threat at hand.
Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine add new chapters to Geralt’s story
The two major expansions, Hearts of Stone (2015) and Blood & Wine (2016), continue Geralt’s adventures with fresh locations, characters and stories. These stories are now included in Remastered editions. Base-game owners also receive both expansions at no extra cost. On PS4 and Xbox One, they are free downloads; on updated versions, their content is merged into the game. Existing expansion owners keep them in their libraries.
Remastered brings visual upgrades to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
The current official version is called Remastered, also listed on GOG. It adds enhanced graphics for the original release while maintaining compatibility with existing saves. The Remastered upgrade is free for qualifying owners on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Existing cross-progression and achievements remain intact.
Remastered also changes how Geralt fights and develops. Reworked animations, new finishers and an adaptive camera accompany a revised skill tree. The visual changes cover environments, characters, monsters, foliage and lighting, with rendering and ray-tracing improvements. Other additions include Cross Platform Mod Support, transmogrification, immersive meditation and an expanded photo mode.
Players can still start Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine as standalone adventures through the main menu. The original game’s release and the current Remastered upgrade are separate milestones; the newer features should not be read as a description of every older console edition.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains a landmark RPG that balances deep character development with engaging combat mechanics across its expansive map.
