Overview
MW4 DMZ is Modern Warfare 4’s new extraction shooter mode that lets you deploy into Hajin to fight AI forces and rival Operators, complete objectives and loot up before extracting with rewards.
Following the October 20, 2026 early-access start for eligible digital preorders/prepurchases of Standard Digital or Vault editions, MW4 DMZ launched fully on October 23, 2026. The game is distinct from its older sibling Modern Warfare II’s DMZ mode.
Deploying to Hajin
In MW4 DMZ, you’ll deploy into Hajin as an Operator who can complete DMZ Orders, Story Missions and Dynamic Operations. You gather loot from the environment by fighting AI forces in Dynamic Operations that vary across locations. Orders guide progression and teach mechanics, while Story Missions supply briefings and narrative objectives. Dynamic Operations can be selected before deployment or through a phone in Hajin, with cash, XP and Supply Drops among the rewards. Side Ops offer smaller opportunities for XP, resources and intel.
Hajin extends beyond its urban areas into villages, farmland, industrial sites and underground spaces. Medical buildings, ammo and armor caches, UAV Towers and fuel facilities give players useful services. Threats vary by area, from lower-pressure locations to fortified compounds and bosses.
Forward Operating Base
The FOB serves as your home base to manage and craft equipment, with its 3D printer unlocking at DMZ Player Level 2. It also stores gear you can take on deployment, from weapons to crafting ingredients that let you build new items. Stations include Operators, DMZ Orders, Stash/Loadout, Firing Range, Boss Board, Vendor and Gunsmith. The printer consumes Printer Resources and Ingredients for equipment and base upgrades. Weapon Manuals must be found and extracted to expand what can be built at the Gunsmith.
Solo deployment
Players can deploy alone by turning Squad Fill off. Matchmaking does not guarantee solo-only lobbies, so rival squads can still be present. Active Duty Operators carry loadouts and develop Traits. A lost Operator can become MIA, with recovery available under its conditions; the FOB is where you manage and change Operators.
Extraction sites
After completing objectives or gathering loot, your Operator can extract from Hajin using one of three methods: calling the chopper at an exfil site; deploying with flares and waiting for rescue; or launching Fulton balloons. The latter two require specific gear. Exfil sites activate from a pool across the map and are marked by green smoke. Calling the helicopter is only part of leaving: you still need to hold the site and board, while AI and rival squads can put pressure on the departure.
