Can You Play MW4 DMZ Solo?

Modern Warfare 4’s newest map, Hajin, has players scrambling for solo entry and wondering how the game will handle mixed squads. Will you face larger groups? Can you play alone or with one friend without guaranteed matchmaking support?

Here’s what we know about MW4 DMZ solo gameplay so far.

How do I turn off Squad Fill?

Infinity Ward explicitly says that players can enter Hajin by turning Squad Fill off before queuing, after choosing Story Missions, Dynamic Operations or Free Roam at the Forward Operating Base (FOB). This does not mean you’ll find only solos in your lobby.

The mode also offers a Free Loadout. Extract successfully and you keep its basic gear.

How many friends can join my squad?

At deployment, you’re capped at three people total: yourself plus up to two allies, no matter how many join before deployment. Infinity Ward says that once a squad reaches four players through assimilation (you + 3 others), it cannot grow larger during the match. This means you can’t enter with one friend and expect only solos or duos in your lobby.

Hajin launches with up to 20 squads and 60 players total, spawning at the same time.

Will solos and duos face larger squads?

Infinity Ward’s developer answers clarify that matchmaking prioritizes equal-sized squads, but there is no separate solo-only mode at launch. You could still encounter larger groups.

For example:

  • If two duos and one trio are in your lobby, they may all be matched together.

Does MW4 DMZ use skill-based matchmaking?

The checked developer answers do not confirm whether or how skill-based matchmaking applies to DMZ.

Can you join another squad during a match?

During deployment in Hajin, you have options to request a truce (peaceful coexistence), assimilate into an existing squad via the Ping Wheel, or use Proximity Chat with nearby Operators. However:

  • A solo can only join up to three other players.
  • A duo can join with another duo as long as their combined total doesn’t exceed four players.
  • There’s no guarantee that requesting a truce will result in friendly behavior; Infinity Ward notes that other squads may still attack you.

How do I find teammates for the same missions?

Infinity Ward says there is no separate Party Finder for solos or duos. Instead, your deployment choice (Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, Free Roam) helps match you with people who have similar goals:

  • Story Missions: Built for squads and solo players, within a live server with other Operators.
  • Dynamic Operations and Free Roam: Both allow solo entry. Operations reward Cash, XP and Supply Drops; Free Roam starts without an assigned mission.

For finding a group beforehand, Infinity Ward also points to the official Call of Duty Discord’s dedicated LFG channels.

How can I revive myself when playing alone?

The mode includes several features designed for solos, including the Tourniquet ability:

  1. Tourniquet: Allows you to get back up after being downed but leaves 100 health instead of the normal 150.
  2. Medkits and Bandages: Medkits repair wounds and restore Tourniquet use; Bandages temporarily restore health. They do not repair the wound or restore Tourniquet use.

You can also loot and print Self Revives. The official gear recommendations include a Plate Carrier, Backpack, Weapon and Medkit.

The Stealth Meter tracks AI awareness levels (white to yellow to orange as detection gets closer), helping you avoid detection by hostile AI.

Is Single Squad Mission a public PvE mode?

No. Single Squad Mission will not be available to players at launch. Infinity Ward says it was an internal developer playlist, never intended for public use. Turn Squad Fill off to enter alone; that does not create a private PvE match. The checked sources do not confirm a public PvE-only mode.

Can I reconnect, and is my gear protected?

Infinity Ward says you should be able to reconnect while the server is running. Its answer does not confirm gear protection, invulnerability or a reconnect timeout.

What if Squad Fill or a truce doesn’t work as expected?

If unwanted allies join your squad, check the setup before deploying:

  • Choose Story Missions, Dynamic Operations or Free Roam at the FOB.
  • Turn off Squad Fill before queuing.

Remember that while DMZ offers solos and duos support, it doesn’t guarantee a lobby filled only with small groups. The game prioritizes equal-sized squads but allows larger teams. A truce request can still be refused or betrayed.

These rules may change as Infinity Ward refines matchmaking algorithms. For now, the key takeaway: you can play solo without guarantees of a small-group lobby, but solos can face larger squads.
